Frequently Asked Questions About Site Dumpers

What is a site dumper?
A site dumper is a compact, off-road vehicle designed for transporting loose materials like sand, gravel, and rubble within a construction site. They are smaller and more manoeuvrable than full-size dump trucks.
What is the difference between a front-tip and swivel-tip site dumper?
Front-tip dumpers discharge their load straight ahead, while swivel-tip models can rotate the skip to dump material to the side. Swivel-tip dumpers offer greater flexibility on congested sites where tipping space is limited.
How much can a site dumper carry?
MCM site dumpers range from 1-tonne to 9-tonne payload capacity. The right size depends on your site conditions and the volume of material you need to move.

Site dumpers in South Africa are most commonly used on residential building sites, road rehabilitation projects and landscaping developments where excavated soil and imported fill must be moved continuously across the site. Their compact size — typically 1.4—2.2 m wide — allows them to operate on narrow access roads and through standard gate openings that exclude larger articulated trucks.

Payload class is the most important specification when selecting a site dumper. A 1-tonne dumper is suited to garden and light residential work. 2—3 tonne models are the most common on house-building sites. 6—9 tonne models are used on civil and commercial construction projects where high-volume material movement is required without the cost and logistics of a full-size haul truck.

Swivel-skip models offer greater operational flexibility than front-tip dumpers because the operator can discharge material to the side without reversing the machine to face the dump zone. This is particularly useful in confined spaces, alongside trenches and when loading into hoppers positioned beside the travel path.

MCM Group site dumpers are built with robust chassis, high-ground-clearance axles and sealed drivetrains suitable for the muddy, uneven terrain typical of South African construction sites. All models come with full local warranty, parts supply and after-sales service from our branches in Cape Town, George, Gauteng and Bloemfontein.
