A practical guide for South African owner-operators considering the 27X — MCM's mid-compact mini-TLB.

Who is this machine for?

The 27X is the right buy for the operator who works mostly on tight sites but still needs real lifting and digging capability, not just a glorified loader. Typical 27X buyers are: small-plot building contractors; landscapers and paving crews; farmers running irrigation, drainage, and fence-line work; municipal and estate maintenance teams; and start-up earthworks operators who need a single machine that can earn its keep across a wide range of jobs. If you need to lift 1 tonne of bricks onto a slab in the morning and dig a 1.5 m trench after lunch — without booking two different machines — the 27X is built for you.

What can it do on a typical day?

A 27X will trench up to 1.6 m deep, lift up to 1 000 kg of bricks, cement, compost, or rubble, load a small tipper or trailer with the 0.5–0.6 m³ front bucket, and grade or push material around a typical residential or smallholding site. Realistic shift productivity: 20–35 cubic metres of soil moved or 8–12 tonnes of material loaded. The 37 kW Yunnei diesel sips fuel — typically 3.5–5 litres per hour under load — and the 2 800 kg operating weight means an experienced operator can work fast without churning soft ground.

How does it compare?

Inside MCM's range, the 27X sits one step up from the 13X mini-TLB (lighter, smaller bucket, tighter access) and one step down from the 37X compact TLB (deeper dig, more loader payload). Compared to imported branded mini-TLBs at twice the price, the 27X delivers similar working performance, with parts and after-sales support based locally instead of overseas.
